Our Friends of Scouting
Campaign supported the following
successes in 2007:
Over 21,200 youth were served during 2007.
4,910 rank advancements and 6,010 merit badges were
earned by our Scouts.
The Chickasaw Council proudly produces nearly three
times the national average of Eagle Scouts annually...
204 in 2007.
Over 1,500 youth and adult volunteers attended the
Special Needs Jamboree.
Over 1,454 Scouts attended summer camp at Kia Kima
Scout Reservation, and over 1,492 Scouts attended
Camp Currier.
Improvements to Camp Kia Kima Scout Reservation,
included renovation of the shotgun range and the Commissary,
and a new cabin and much-needed bath house.
69,624 nights of camping happened at Kia Kima Scout
Reservation, and over 15,208 nights at Camp Currier.
Ahoalan-Nachpikin, Order of the Arrow Lodge, sent 78
Arrowmen to the Section Conference, winning several
Native American Dance competitions.
Over 36,800 pounds of food for the needy were collected
during Scouting for Food - more than double the
amount collected last year.
G. Scott Morris, M.D., M. Div., founder of the Church
Health Center, was honored with the 2007 Distinguished
Citizen Award for Shelby County and the Sturdevant
Family was honored with the Distinguished Citizen
Award for the Delta.
Approximately 22,000 hours of community service were
performed by Scouts and Scouters in 2007, including the
placement of over 46,890 flags at the graves of veterans
on Memorial Day, Eagle Scout projects, and service to
the elderly, needy, homeless and disabled.
The annual Trails End Popcorn Sale increased sales to over
$700,000. The sale of popcorn provides a vehicle for youth to
learn the value of earning their way.
